Climate Change Scotland Project Criteria

Climate Change Scotland works with TICOS (Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service) and aims to offer a wide range of robustly assessed and verified sustainable development projects which achieve clear climate change benefit opportunities across Scotland.   All types of projects that lead to a reduction in carbon emissions will be considered for funding, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transport and carbon sequestration (including afforestation, reforestation and avoided deforestation).  [N.B. TICOS have commissioned research for forestry projects entitled 'Forestry projects as voluntary carbon offset; an up to date consideration of all of the issues involved'. Please contact TICOS if you wish to view this report.]

Projects can be nominated by anyone but must be managed by a bone fide organization with the necessary competence and structure to deliver its objectives. Climate Change Scotland and TICOS are committed to working with a range of partners to achieve meaningful climate change benefits on behalf of the companies and individuals who are making carbon-offsetting contributions through Climate Change Scotland.  Projects we support will often have been submitted by members of major Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO's), voluntary organisations, charities or not-for-profit social enterprises.

Projects must meet the following criteria to be eligible for funding through Climate Change Scotland (via TICOS):

TICOS has its own operational procedure and has also developed its own project verification and validation standard: 'The TICOS Validation and Verification Standard (November 2007)'. You can visit the project validation page for more information.

If you believe your project meets the above criteria and you would like to source funding through Climate Change Scotland (via TICOS), then please visit the Application page to find out how to apply.
