TICOS, MONTHLY UPDATE - APRIL 2007
Interest in the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service continues to grow and our business model is standing up to the rigours of inspection and assessment by our peers. Similarly, the support we are receiving for our 'carbon plus' approach is finding favour in the industry and with agencies who share our wider sustainable development goals.
During the past month we have:
- Seen an increase to 15 Tour operators using the TICOS service. We are in discussion with a number of others. Some operators are now asking us to develop specific proposals and projects which suit their particular interests and needs.
- Increased to 20 the carbon reduction and offset projects we are fast tracking.
- Opened our Clients premium bank account for funds raised by those using our services.
- Contributed to the DEFRA policy development of carbon offset and will continue to press the government to acknowledge the role of voluntary carbon reduction and offset alongside the regulatory framework.
- Held further meetings with industry associations and prospective partners as we prepare for inclusion in a wider framework of choice for operators and agents seeking to offset customer emissions.
- Improved our working arrangements with UNESCO and will shortly be announcing a major new development with them
- Stimulated discussions in international agencies and NGO's in an attempt to get international agreement about the role of afforestation and tree planting in carbon reduction.
