TICOS Response to Guardian Article: The inconvenient truth about the carbon offset industry
This article shows the need for a very vigorous and thorough review of all voluntary projects offered to customers and the importance of high quality standards and due dilligence. TICOS attempts to overcome the serious problems raised in the article in the following ways:
- Our own set of standards which are designed specifically for dealing with voluntary projects;
- A separation of functions requiring three independent levels of sign-off on all of our projects;
- Working with well respected project providers such as UNESCO and WCPA;
- High visibility of project development and execution through our website; and
- Stated positions on both additionality and double counting.
