July 2008 News Update
The last few months have been very busy in the development of The Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service (TICOS). Interest by tourism organisations continues to grow and we are very pleased to welcome some new specialist tour operators on board as Service Users including The Adventure Company, On The Piste Travel Ltd and Real Africa.
A wide selection of TICOS projects have now been signed off by the TICOS verification and validation team and are ready to receive funds. As well as offsetting carbon, all TICOS projects have significant wider sustainable development benefits. Please see the Projects for Funding section for further project information. We are also working to develop a number of energy efficient stove projects in Africa which have very high carbon return as well as valuable community benefits. Further details on the stove projects will be posted on the TICOS website shortly.
Climate Change Scotland has chosen the TICOS destination climate change service to support it in its objective of minimising damage to the environment through carbon emissions which are leading to climate change. TICOS continues to work closely with Climate Change Scotland to develop carbon offset projects in Scotland which have wider sustainable development benefits. We are currently developing projects with a number of Scottish organisations.
